I cold DM’d Alycia.
She had 40,000 followers online, a thriving event styling business and an incredibly loyal client base. She was styling weddings, proposals, high teas and corporate events all over Melbourne. She was clearly talented. She was clearly in demand.
She just didn’t have a website.
So I reached out and told her she needed one. Her response? Websites were a waste of time. Her Instagram was doing the work. Her DMs were full. Why would she need anything else?
I understood where she was coming from. But I also knew exactly what was happening behind the scenes. People were landing on her Instagram profile, falling in love with her work, going to click a link in her bio and finding nothing. Or worse, finding “DM to book” and deciding the friction wasn’t worth it.
She eventually agreed to give it a go.
Alycia runs Social Season Events, a Melbourne-based event styling studio specialising in real touch florals and bespoke styling for weddings, proposals and events. With over four years of experience and a background in interior design, business and event management, she brings a level of considered creativity to every setup that is hard to match.
The problem was not her work. The problem was that people who found her on Instagram had no easy way to take the next step. They had to slide into her DMs, wait for a response, ask for information, wait again. Every step required effort. And most people, even the ones who desperately wanted to book her, just did not bother.
We built her a custom Showit website that changed that completely. A clean, beautiful homepage that immediately communicated what she did and who she was for. Clear service pages for wedding styling, event styling and proposal setups. A portfolio that let her work speak for itself. And a simple, frictionless enquiry form that meant going from “I love this” to “I’ve submitted an enquiry” took less than two minutes.
Alycia didn’t announce her website. She didn’t do a launch post, a countdown or a story series. She simply updated the link in her bio and waited.
By the end of the first day, she had 10 new enquiries sitting in her inbox.
In her own words: “I made my website live about a week ago but I haven’t announced it anywhere. The day it went live, I already got 10 enquiries through the website, but I didn’t even tell anyone that I had a website yet. Like it actually works.”
Ten enquiries. One day. Zero announcement.
This is the part that matters, because the results were not a fluke.
Alycia already had an audience of people who wanted to book her. They had been watching her work for months. They were ready. But every time they went to take action, there was nowhere to go and nothing to do except slide into her DMs, which most of them simply were not going to do.
The website did not create demand. It just made it easy for the demand that already existed to convert.
Most people do not want to message a business to find out if they are a good fit. They want to open a website, read about the service, look at the work, understand the process and then make their own decision about whether to enquire. They want to do that research on their own terms, in their own time, without having to talk to anyone first.
When Alycia gave them somewhere to go and made that process completely frictionless, they did exactly what they had been wanting to do for months.
Over the period following the launch, Alycia’s enquiry volume increased by 600%.
Not from paid ads. Not from a viral post. Not from a PR feature. Just from having a website that worked as hard as she did.
Social Season Events has since continued to grow, with Alycia expanding and evolving her business. The website that started it all is still live at socialseasonevents.showit.site.
If you are relying on “DM to book” or “email me for info” as your primary enquiry method, you are losing clients every single day. Not because they do not want to book you. But because you are making them work for it, and most of them will not.
Your website should be the thing that does the heavy lifting. It should answer their questions, show them your work, build their trust and make it genuinely easy to take the next step — all without them having to speak to anyone first.
Alycia’s story is not an exception. It is what happens when a talented vendor with a great reputation finally gives their audience somewhere to go.
